Warmup

If you knew you had just a few days left to live, what would you want to say to the people you love?

Transition:

This is the kind of moment we’re stepping into with Jacob in Genesis 48. He’s at the end of his life. But his focus isn’t regret—it’s legacy.

Sermon Questions.

READ GENESIS 48:1–22 (split into three sections)

What do verses 3 and 4 tell us about Jacob’s relationship with God?

How does remembering God's faithfulness shape the way we finish our lives?

How would you describe your relationship with Jesus right now?

Read Genesis 48:5–14

Why do you think Jacob chose to adopt Ephraim and Manasseh as his own sons?

What does this say about how he viewed family and legacy?

Is there a relationship in your life that needs healing before it’s too late? How?

Insight: Jacob wasn’t a perfect father, but he made a powerful statement: family and faith go hand in hand. He wanted to make things right, and to pass on a blessing, not just bloodline.

Read Genesis 48:15–22, Luke 12:13–21 and Mark 8:36

What stands out to you in Jacob’s blessing?

How does this passage challenge the way we think about success and legacy?

What are you doing now that will last into eternity?

Insight: Jacob’s blessing wasn’t about wealth or reputation. It was about God’s faithfulness, his walk with God, and the impact on the next generation. That’s the legacy that lasts.

SUMMARY & CHALLENGE

  1. Know your Savior – Your relationship with Jesus is what defines your story.

  2. Value your people – Family and reconciliation matter deeply to God.

  3. Live for eternity – A life lived God’s way is the only way that lasts.

Which of the three areas above do you feel God wants you to invest time and growth in? Explain.
