Opening Question

Have you ever had a personal ‘comeback’ story? Maybe in sports, school, relationships, or faith? Explain.

Sermon Questions

Read John 21:15-19.

Read John 21:15, John 13:37, Matthew 26:33 and 2 Corinthians 10:12.

Peter once said he’d never fall away, even if others did. Why do you think he compared himself to others?

How can comparing ourselves to others affect our walk with Jesus today?

What does Paul mean in 2 Corinthians 10:12 when he says comparing ourselves with others is unwise?

Read John 21:15-17 and 2 Corinthians 12:8-10.

Why do you think Jesus asked Peter the same question three times?

How do you think this moment restored Peter?

How does God use our weaknesses instead of disqualifying us for them?

Read John 21:15-17 again.

What mission did Jesus give Peter after his failure?

How can our past mistakes prepare us to shepherd others?

Read John 21:18-19, Luke 14:27-28, Acts 2:14-41.

Jesus told Peter that following Him will cost his life. Why mention that now, at the moment of restoration?

How did Peter’s story continue after this moment (from Acts 2)?What might it cost us to follow Jesus faithfully today?

Application

Do you feel like you need a spiritual comeback?

What would it look like for you to start that today?
